On-road costs

"+ ORC" means plus on-road costs: stamp duty, registration, compulsory third party insurance, number plates and the dealer's delivery charge. Duty is the biggest variable and depends on your state and the price you pay:

  • Victoria: EVs pay $8.40 per $200 (about 4.2%) at all values, roughly $2,430 to $3,060 across the 7X range9. See Victoria.
  • New South Wales: standard duty, about $3,200 on a $57,900 car and $3,950 on a $72,900 car10. The EV exemption ended on 31 December 202311. See NSW.
  • Other states: see the state pages.

Always get a written drive-away quote before you pay a deposit.

Negotiating

  • RRP on new EVs from newer brands tends to be firm. Accessories, delivery charges, trade-in value and finance terms are more likely to move.
  • Ask "what can you do on the drive-away price?" and get any offer in writing.
  • Around a model-year change, ask whether outgoing stock is discounted, and compare it with the new model's launch offer.
