Home charging
Last checked: 8 November 2026.
Charging at home overnight is the cheapest and easiest way to run an EV. Here's how to set it up for your Zeekr.
2027 7X (MY27)
The updated 2027 7X (MY27) delivers from December 2026. Figures on this page are for the MY25/MY26 car unless marked. See Which 7X do I have?.
What your car can take on AC
| Model | Maximum AC charging |
|---|---|
| 7X (all grades, MY25/MY26 and MY27) | 22 kW1 |
| X RWD (MY26) | 11 kW2 |
| X AWD (MY26) | 22 kW2 |
| 009 FWD | 11 kW3 |
| 009 AWD | Not stated in the sources we found |
A car only charges as fast as the slower of the car and the wallbox. 22 kW needs three-phase power; most homes are single-phase, which tops out around 7 kW. Home charging explained covers single-phase and three-phase supply and charge times for each battery, and kW vs kWh the sums behind them.
Your options
Portable charger from a wall socket
A standard 10 amp socket gives about 2.3 kW (230 V x 10 A). That adds roughly 2.3 kWh per hour, so a 75 kWh battery takes well over a day from empty. It's fine for topping up or for low daily mileage, not for regular full charges. See Plugs and cables for portable charger safety.
No extension leads or adapters
Zeekr's 7X owner manual says not to use any adapters, extension cables or multiple ports of any kind when charging4. Plug the portable charger straight into a suitable wall socket. If the socket is too far from where you park, or isn't suitable, have a licensed electrician install a dedicated outlet or a wallbox.
Not yet confirmed for the Australian manual
The manual we read is the Netherlands edition of the 7X manual, on an unofficial mirror4. Check the booklet that came with your car and your portable charger's own manual.
The same manual says the cable between the car and the charging equipment must be shorter than 30 metres, and not to use damaged cables, bundle the cable while charging, or leave it in direct sunlight, because overheating protection can slow or stop charging4.
7 kW wallbox (single-phase)
The usual home setup. At about 7 kWh per hour, a 75 kWh battery fills from empty in roughly 11 hours, so an overnight charge covers most daily driving.
22 kW wallbox (three-phase)
Only worth it if you already have three-phase power and a car that accepts 22 kW (the 7X and X AWD). Ask your electrician whether your supply and switchboard can handle it.
Did you get a wallbox with your car?
- First 1,000 7X buyers (2025 launch): the launch offer included a 7 kW home charger plus Type 2 and mini portable (10 amp) cables5. Check your contract for what applied to you.
- 2027 7X (MY27) launch offer: orders placed with a deposit from 1 November to 31 December 2026 include a 7 kW wallbox, supply only. Installation by a licensed electrician is at your cost6.
Installation
Get quotes
Use a licensed electrician who has installed EV chargers before. A good quote covers:
- Whether your switchboard has capacity, or needs an upgrade
- The cable run from the switchboard to the charger
- Materials, labour, testing and the electrical compliance certificate
- Warranty on both the equipment and the installation
Get more than one quote. Costs depend heavily on how far the charger is from your switchboard and whether the board needs work.
Choose the spot
- Close to where you park, with the charge port side in reach
- Weather-protected if possible
- A short cable run from the switchboard
After the install
Ask for the electrical compliance certificate, warranty documents and help setting up any app.
Solar and smart charging
If you have solar, a charger that can follow solar output lets you charge from your own panels instead of exporting power. Useful features to look for:
- Scheduled charging: start only during your cheapest tariff window
- Solar diversion: charge from surplus solar
- Load balancing: reduce charging when the house is drawing a lot of power, so you don't trip the main switch
- App control: start, stop and monitor remotely
Tariffs
A time-of-use plan with a cheap overnight or daytime window can make home charging much cheaper. Retailers change their EV plans and rates often, so compare current offers for your distribution area rather than relying on figures from a guide.
The maths for any plan: kWh added x your rate per kWh. For example, adding 60 kWh at 15c/kWh costs $9 (an example rate, not a quote).
Apartments and strata
Charging in an apartment usually needs strata approval. A practical approach:
- Check whether your car space has power nearby, or is "EV-ready" with conduit already run
- Put a formal request to strata with an electrician's quote and plan
- Offer to cover the cost
- Make sure the approval is recorded in the minutes
Rules differ by state, so check your state's fair trading or strata guidance.
Safety
- Have chargers and dedicated circuits installed by a licensed electrician
- Make sure the circuit has RCD (safety switch) protection
- Don't use damaged cables or equipment, and don't bypass safety switches
- Don't buy chargers that aren't certified for sale in Australia
