Road trips
Last checked: 8 November 2026.
Road trips in a Zeekr work well with a bit of planning. This page covers the planning habits that matter; the club's own trip guides cover group drives in more detail.
2027 7X (MY27)
The updated 2027 7X (MY27) delivers from December 2026. Figures on this page are for the MY25/MY26 car unless marked. See Which 7X do I have?.
The rules we use on club trips
These come from the club's trip guides1:
- Plan on 70 to 80% of rated range. Speed, hills, temperature, load and wind all cut into the WLTP figure. Plan legs around the lower number. See Range in the real world for what each factor costs.
- Charge to at least 90% the night before.
- Plan for the lowest-range car if you're travelling in a group.
- Have a backup charger for any stop that's a single unit.
The planning, leading and participant guides are on the club website.
Charging on the road
Stop at 80% unless you need more
Charging slows a lot as the battery gets close to full. On a long trip, several short stops to around 80% usually get you there sooner than fewer long stops to 100%. Charge higher only when the next leg needs it. The charging curve shows why.
When others are waiting, see Charging etiquette.
Peak rates
| Model | Peak DC charging |
|---|---|
| 7X RWD | up to 450 kW2 |
| 7X Long Range and Performance AWD | up to 420 kW2 |
| X RWD (MY26) | up to 230 kW3 |
| X AWD (MY26) | up to 150 kW3 |
| 009 FWD | 150 kW4 |
These are peaks under ideal conditions. What you see depends on the charger, the battery temperature and how full the battery is.
Sources differ: 7X 10-80% times
Zeekr's own 7X page shows 13 minutes (RWD) and 16 minutes (Long Range, AWD) in one table and 11 minutes in another5. Plan on roughly 10 to 16 minutes on a fast charger, plus time to find and start the charger.
Plan one charger ahead
Always know your next stop, a backup if it's broken or busy, and whether you can reach the backup.
Use the breaks
Line up charging with meals, coffee and toilet stops. Avoid holiday-weekend peaks at busy highway sites if you can.
Planning tools
- A Better Route Planner (ABRP): enter your model, start and destination, and it suggests charging stops. Save the plan for offline use.
- PlugShare: check recent check-ins for each planned stop.
- Network apps: set up accounts and payment before you leave.
- The car's navigation: useful as a cross-check; it knows the battery level.
Screenshot the plan in case of poor reception, and share it with whoever's travelling with you.
Range on the road
Higher speeds, headwinds, roof loads, a full car, cold weather and running the heating or air conditioning all reduce range. Ways to claw some back:
- Pre-condition the cabin while still plugged in
- Use seat heating instead of heating the whole cabin
- Check tyre pressures before you leave
- Take off roof racks and boxes you don't need
If you're running low, slow down, turn climate control down, and look for any charger in range, even a slow AC one, to get you to the next fast charger.
Zeekr Roadside
1800 093 357, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, anywhere in Australia6. Save it in your phone before you go. Have your VIN, location (nearest cross street), a description of the problem and a contact number ready when you call.
Roadside runs for five years from first registration (seven years for the first 1,000 7X buyers under the launch offer)78. Under the current terms it includes phone help, 12-volt battery tests and jump-starts, flat tyre help, help with lost or locked keys, and towing to the nearest authorised Zeekr retailer. If you're more than 100 km from home and the car can't be driven for over 24 hours, it can cover accommodation, a rental car or alternative transport, up to set limits6.
Sources differ: running out of charge
A 2025 Zeekr roadside summary listed a tow to the nearest compatible charging station if you run out of charge9. The April 2026 terms don't mention it6. We found no source for "mobile charging". If the main battery is flat, expect a tow, and ask what they'll do when you call.
Being towed
Tell the operator it's an EV, and follow the towing instructions in your owner's manual.
Zeekr Power
Zeekr has talked about bringing its own charging network to Australia, but we found no confirmed Australian rollout. Use the public networks.
