Stamp duty
From 1 July 2026, Victoria charges "green" passenger cars, which includes every pure EV, $8.40 per $200 or part of the value (about 4.2%) at all values1. Duty is on the dutiable value, the price you pay, so on-road extras change it.
| Car | RRP | Duty at 4.2% (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| 7X RWD | $57,900 | about $2,430 |
| 7X Long Range | $63,900 | about $2,680 |
| 7X Performance AWD | $72,900 | about $3,060 |
| 009 7-seat FWD | $115,900 | about $4,870 |
Duty is charged per $200 or part, so the real figure rounds up slightly. Use the State Revenue Office calculator for your actual price.
Not yet confirmed: higher duty on expensive EVs from July 2027
The May 2026 Victorian Budget announced that from 1 July 2027 green cars above the luxury car threshold would lose the 4.2% rate and pay higher rates2. It is subject to legislation and the SRO rate page does not mention it1. It would affect high-priced EVs such as the 009, not the 7X or X.
Incentives
The Victorian Zero Emissions Vehicle subsidy has ended; there has been no subsidy since 30 June 20233.
Sources differ: EV registration discount
RACV (May 2026) says EV owners can get a $100 registration discount at renewal3. Other sources say the discount ended on 1 January 20264. Check the current registration fee with VicRoads.
